Employee Spotlight

Evamarie Manieri, UX Design Manager at e2open

E2open is powered by a strong global network of problem solvers and innovators driven by strong values and our company culture. Together, we are focused on doing what’s right in business and our communities. Every month, we will shine a spotlight on an exceptional team member who is helping us transform the supply chain industry. This month, we held a Q&A with Evamarie Manieri, Manager, UX Design at e2open.

Q: How long have you been working for e2open?

A: Since September 2021, when I came over with the BluJay acquisition. I had been with BluJay since 2018.

Q: What is your favorite part about your job?

A: Right now I’m developing our design system for Modern Harmony and it’s a joy. I love getting down to the most nitty-gritty level of detail and knowing that I’m contributing to the experience of all e2open applications in the future.

Q: How has your role evolved since you joined the team?

A: Until we undertook Modern Harmony I worked with the different product teams designing features. As soon as the team started discussing the new design system I leapt at the chance to have that be my primary focus.

Q: What drew you to this field, and how did you get started?

A: When I first moved to New York I took the first job I could find, which happened to be a receptionist in a tiny software company. That was when we were all just making it up as we went along. I started to pitch in and soon – despite having zero experience in technology – I was doing a little bit of everything. My home computer at the time didn’t even have a hard drive! Just two 5.25 floppy disks (kids, ask your grandparents.) But I soon found that I loved it. It didn’t hurt that I also met my husband in that job. We’ve been married 23 years.

Q: What other types of jobs/industries have you worked in?

A: As an adult, I’ve been an actor, an author, and had an Etsy store. When I was younger I worked as a costume builder for a community theater, mostly putting vests on generic townspeople. It wasn’t glamorous but it was tremendous fun.

Q: Who is the most important person in your life and why?

A: My son Curtis, because he’s awesome in every conceivable way.

Q: What is a dream that you want to make true one day?

A: To retire to Italy.

Q: What is a cause that you’re most passionate about and why?

A: I’m passionate about LGBTQ rights, particularly for trans people. Trans rights are human rights!

Q: What methods or tools do you use to stay organized?

A: My favorite is the oldest of old school – a Moleskine notebook and a fountain pen I inherited from my dad. For work, I use a basic note-taking app. I like to keep everything super simple.

Q: How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance in a demanding professional environment?

A: Having a manager who is overwhelmingly in support of family and personal time is critical. Also, since I’ve worked remotely for more than a decade, I had to train myself early on to turn my computer off at the end of the day. The key for me is to have something in my routine that occurs right after I typically finish work so I’m not tempted to linger. Usually, that’s my exercise time.

Q: Where did you grow up, and what brought you to your current city?

A: I grew up in a suburb of Philadelphia. My parents brought me to New York for my 13th birthday. On our first day here I said, “This is where I’m going to live when I grow up.” My mother was aghastwhich of course made me determined to follow through. I moved here right after college and never left.

Q: What’s a fun fact about you that might surprise people?

A: I’ve had three novels published by Tor Books (Macmillan). You can get them dirt cheap from thriftbooks.com, which should give you a clue about how successful they’ve been. I’m still proud of them.

Q: Do you have a personal aspiration you’re working toward?

A: I found out the hard way that writing novels, working a full-time job, and being a mom is not something I can sustain. I decided to put writing aside for a while, but I’m looking forward to going back to it.
