Employee Spotlight
E2open is powered by a strong global network of problem solvers and innovators driven by strong values and our company culture. Together, we are focused on doing what’s right in business and our communities. Every month, we will shine a spotlight on an exceptional team member who is helping us transform the supply chain industry. This month, we held a Q&A with Diana Olivera, Solution Architect at e2open.
Q: How long have you been working for e2open?
A: I have been working at e2open since January 2023, so 1 year and 10 months. My current position is Solution Architect for the GTM platform.
Q: What attracted you to work in the supply chain industry?
A: Can I say it was destiny? I have worked on different kinds of tech products in different industries, my most recent experience working for a product in the ride-hailing industry. I wanted a new challenge, and, as someone who has never been afraid to do or learn something new, when the opportunity came, I took it. It was challenging because of all the new information and learning, but I had and still have good mentors who support me. I cannot describe how much I have learned since I started working in this company.
Q: How do you explain your job to friends and family outside of the industry?
A: I have been in the technology business since my university days. Each time I need to explain a new software I’m working on to someone who is not that tech-oriented – I try to be very general about it. They know I work for a very big and successful software development company in the US. That alone creates interest. As a GTM Solution Architect, I’m part of the Functional Team. We need to know everything about the GTM platform, analyze our customer’s trade compliance processes, and design and deliver the best solution for our customers’ business needs. There are, of course, many other tasks that I must fulfill since our projects have many phases and some of them are quite long, but I try to be as general as possible.
Q: What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned so far in your career?
A: Communicate, always. Communicate as fast and as much as you can.
Q: How do you see technology transforming our industry or company in the next five to ten years?
A: I think AI software is going to be more present in areas of the supply chain such as transportation, distribution, and manufacturing. I hope we keep using these technologies to improve our current products and develop new ones.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about working for e2open?
A: Our team. It’s very nice to come to the office and know that we can support and rely on each other for anything. We are dealing with software that takes lots of knowledge, so we are learning every day from everyone, and each team member is always there to help you no matter what. From seniors to juniors, the work ethic of our e2open team is inspiring.
Q: How do you maintain a work-life balance in a fast-paced industry?
A: During my work hours I try to prioritize the most important tasks, make a list if there are many of them, and distribute my workload. If I have concerns about what to prioritize first, I make sure to double-check delivery dates with the PMs or seniors and ask for my manager’s advice. I always try to communicate if I have roadblocks, or if something is stopping me from delivering my work. I try to ask for feedback when I can, so I know where to improve.
Once I’m done with work I try to disconnect as much as possible. In the last few years, I have been investing in exercising and eating better. I try to go to bed early to get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep. During the after-office hours, I may meet friends for dinner. I also meet my team to play board games while eating takeout. We try to do this once every month to know each other better and share with each other. It’s fun and I think these interactions bring us closer together. Recently a college is teaching us Mahjong – a Chinese table game. It’s very complicated, and we are still tried to understand it, but we are very invested in learning it.
Q: How do you like to spend your time outside of work? What are your hobbies?
A: Currently I’m focusing on improving myself, so I exercise before going to the office. I also like to cook, and, on the weekends, I prepare my meals for the next week. Cooking really helps me to release stress, and I also like to cook for my loved ones. I like to spend time with my friends, go out to eat some Peruvian, Asian or Argentinian food, and go to the movies. During my vacations, I like to travel with my family and spend a lot of quality time with them.
Q: If you could be anyone for a day (alive today, or in the past), who would it be and why?
A: I don’t think I want to become someone else. I just would like to be myself again, but go back in time to when my dad was still around so I can spend a day with him. He passed away when I was still a kid so I would have liked to ask him for life advice, ask about his life – like how his childhood was, how he overcame all the challenges he met in his jobs and studies, and of course tell him I love him.
Q: What’s the most interesting place you’ve ever visited and why?
A: I would say Pergamon Museum in Berlin, I went there when I was a student in Germany. I’m still very impressed with the Ishtar gate and the Pergamon Altar.
Q: Are you an early bird or a night owl? Has it always been that way?
A: Currently I’m an early bird since I wake up early to exercise (5:30 am) but during my university days, I was a night owl like any teenager.
